Note: Monthly competitions are a primary way that club members
receive feedback from a variety of photographers about
the quality of our work. Seeing and listening to the critiques
of other peoples work is also instructive.

Competition is open to dues
paying club members however guests are invited to enter up to
two competitions during the year. ü For each competition each member may enter the following: two digital images, one color print, one black and white print.
ü
Each month there is an assigned
subject ( see web site for listing) for images ( the same for
both digital and prints) and
the subject must be the main focus of interest in the photo.
Prints may be commercially printed. Sepia and toners may
be used. The outside dimensions of prints may be up to 16 X 24
including any matting. Panoramics may not exceed
ü
If the subject is NATURE the
image should not display the “hand of man” in any way. Nothing
man made can be visible. This also means no cultivated flowers
or domesticated pets.

Competitors are grouped in two
divisions: Division A and B. Professionals are automatically
placed in A and the winner in B is automatically placed in A at
the beginning of the next program year (or at the discretion of
the Competition Manager)

It is recommended that the
assigned subject images be taken the year of the competition.
ü
All images and prints must be
taken by the entrant. Photos may be resubmitted. A winning image
( placing 1, 2 or 3) may not be resubmitted.
ü
All images must have a title and
the entrant’s initials For example:
Winter Dawn_RCP.jpg
Note the underscore that separates name from title. All
digital images must be jpg’s.
ü
Digital images must be resized as
follows before submission: 1024 pixels X 768 pixels at 72 dpi.

Make ups are not permitted
ü
Submission deadline is the Sunday
preceding the competition or earlier. Early submissions are
encouraged.
ü
Scoring by each judge is on a ten
point scale as follows: 1-3 – Weak image needing major improvement 4-6
- Average image needing significant improvement 7-8 –Good image needing only minor
improvement 9-10 –
Entries are judged for
composition, emphasis and interpretation of the main subject,
originality, impact, technical quality and presentation. The three highest scores and
two honorable mentions in each division are critiqued by the
judges. Images scored at 24 points or
more are automatically entered in the Image of the Year
Competition. Awards are given for the Top
Three Accumulative Scores in each Division |
